Hi Marcel,
Just a quick note to say thanks for your assistance with Baz. He arrived alive and well.
Anna went to see him in quarantine on Friday.  He was in good shape but of course, most displeased when she left without taking him with her.
Many Regards

Richard

Tranquillizers for pets travelling by air

According to American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), air transport of sedated pets may be fatal. The airpressure while travelling by air is equivalent to a height of approx. 2500 meters above sealevel. Combined with tranquillizers this can cause a low blood pressure, which is for elderly, stressed or sick animals a live treathening situation.

Tranquillizers are three times  more effective at high altitude and can lower their temperature.

The animal station at Zurich-Airport will, in critical situation, cancel the transportation and hold tranquillized pets back until they are fit to travel.

We recommend to purchase the travel crate ahead of time to reduce the stress level and get the animals used to it. With practise and food you can get your pet to feel more comfortable and safer in the crate. Make sure that you pet can stand upright inside the crate without touching the roof with its head/ears. Your pet must be able to turn around easily and lie down in a comfortable position. Put a confortable bedding and a piece of clothing which bears your scent inside the crate.

Water is very important and must be provided throughout the entire journey. A waterbowl must be attached to the wiredoor of the crate. Tip: freeze the water before check-in, so that it melts slowly and won’t spill when loaded.
