PIKATCHU – Our „Calendar Pet“ of April 2011
ACE Pet Moving arranges relocations and transports for all sorts of animals. One year ago, we were contacted to move Pikatchu, a three year old male guinea pig.
When it comes to moving rodents by air, special measures have to be taken into consideration. The travel crate (container requirement 79) must be lined with wire mesh stong enough to contain the animal(s) and resist gnawing at all times.
Water, as for most animals, is very important and must be provided at all times. In contrary to moving dogs & cats that can travel without food, we recommend that guinea pigs have sufficiant food throughout the journey. Be careful with providing straw & hay, as many countries may have restrictions on the importation.
Pikatchu was collected in Basel one day prior to his flight. In the morning before his departure, we re-filled his waterbottle and made sure he had sufficiant food for his trip. He then took Delta’s direct flight from Zurich to Atlanta, where an agent was already waiting to arrange the import clearance. Once Pikatchu was cleared through customs he was immediately delivered to his owners.
