Pet Travels from Switzerland to Malta
ACE Pet Moving was contacted in regards to Tiger, a 5-year old frequent traveller, who is going back to home to Malta.
The Pet Travel Scheme allows pet carnivores (dogs, cats, ferrets) originating from qualifying countries, as well as pet carnivores residing in Malta that travel to any of the qualifying countries, to enter Malta without quarantine as long as the requisites specified in the Legal Notice 169/2001 have been satisfied.
The Pet Travel Scheme does not apply to other pet animals.
To qualify for the scheme, the pet must:
- Be fitted with a microchip.
- Be vaccinated against rabies.
- Have a pet passport issued if originating from an EU country.
- Be blood tested. At least one month after the rabies vaccination the pet must have a blood sample taken to verify the rabies antibody titre in an EU approved Laboratory. The result of the sieroneutralization titre test must show that the vaccine has given the pet animal satisfactory protection against rabies, i.e. that the pet animal has a titre equal to or greater than 0.5. IU/ml.
- Follow the 6-month rule.
- Health certificate within 7 days
- Be treated with praziquantel for tapeworm and with a product efficient against ticks 24-48 hours before commencing the journey for Malta.
It is essential that step 1 - 7 be carried out in order shown.
Tiger’s owner was well prepared and had all the above arranged in the appropriate order. ACE Pet Moving arranged Tiger’s flight on KM 491 departing Zurich at 5.40pm, arriving in Malta at 8.00pm and pre-notified the border vet & customs about his arrival.
On the day of departure, the owner brought Tiger to our office at the Freight West Building at Zurich-Airport. We then checked Tiger in and brought him to the animal station and short before the flight he was transported out to the plane to be loaded for his trip.
Tiger arrived well & sound in Malta and recognized the appartment immediately. He first had a bite to eat and then took a snooze.
