Highlights 2010
2010 has been a great and successful year for ACE Pet Moving. We would like to herewith share a few moments and special highlights.
In 2009 we were contacted by a client that had an enquiry to move her two year old african grey parrot called Rommel from Turkey to France. We soon found out that a direct importation from Turkey into France was not allowed, so we started coordinating the transport to Switzerland, since she had family in Geneva that could look after Rommel for the required six months.
However, the mission only started after we knew how to proceed. The authorities in Turkey were being extremly challenging and would only issue their own documents, which were not allowed for an entry into Switzerland. We ended up translating documents into Turkish for the authorities to understand. Along with some Vitamine B we finally managed to get all the required documentation.
When it came to the acutal move, we were lucky enough to have already sold our VIPet Serivces to a client to fly personally to Istanbul an collect two cats. Rommel could therefor fly along with Marianne and the two cats in January 2010 and was delivered to Geneva after arrival. Six months later, we re-arranged the paperwork (CITES – endangeroud species) and transported the parrot over the border to France.
ACE Pet Moving becomes an IATA member and joins Cargo Account Settlement Systems (CASS) in March. This improvement means that we can issue our own airwaybills and negotiate with the airlines directly.
In April, we moved the first two lions of a total of eight to Johannesburg, South Africa. These two lions came from a zoo in South of France and were transported to Lionsrock Refuge. More information about Lionsrock can be found here: www.lionsrock.org

One week after we moved the two lions, the volcano Eyjafjallajökull erupted, which also effected some of our pet moves. Luckily we didn’t have pets stuck at any other airports and only had to re-schedule the moves for our clients. In this case all owners were moving at the same time, which meant they couldn’t fly either and the animals could stay with their families until the situation was clear again.
In May it was time to move into a larger office. The move went smoothly since we stayed on the same floor in the Freight West Building at Zurich-Airport. To move into a larger office was the first step for a growth of ACE Pet Moving. Our Team grew in August, when Pascal started working ACE.
A highlight every year is the IPATA conference. In October 2010, Marianne and Marcel joined the conference, which was held in Montréal, Canada. IPATA stands for International Pet and Animal Transportation Association and is a non-profit association made of independent members who are dedicated to the safe and humane transport of pets and other animals. Find more information here: http://www.acepetmoving.com/en/blog/ipata-conference-2010-in-montr%C3%A9al.html
Right after our return from Canada, we moved the next six lions to South Africa. A mother with its two young came from a zoo in Slatina in Romania, which had to be closed. Another lion from Romania called Tecuci was confiscated by the local authorities.
Two lions (Simona and Lea) came from Bulgaria, who were also confiscated from private owners. Read more in our news section: http://www.acepetmoving.com/en/media/six-lions-find-refuge-in-south-africa.html
In December the weather conditions made it difficult for the ACE team to relocate animals. Luckily Zurich and Geneva weren’t effected as much as other airport in Europe, i.e. Frankfurt, Amsterdam, London and Bussels. ACE Pet Moving made sure that all animals that were stuck in Switzerland, were well taken care of and received the treatments they deserve. After realizing that Frankfurt was closed for even longer, we ended up driving two dogs to Munich to catch their flight and be in time for x-mas with their owners, who were already in the US.
We would like to herewith thank our clients, partners and everyone involved with ACE Pet Moving. Here’s to health, success and a great 2011!
